police say san jose police officers were on a special task force in plain clothes driving unmarked cars and working a separate case when they spotted the two-door honda which was stolen. the sheriff deputies say the driver of the honda threw it in reverse, he aimed to an officer. the officer hit the driver in the head with one spot. witnesses wondered if the suspect knew they were undercover police. near the east foothills of san jose. this happened in an unincorporated san jose neighborhood off south white road. janine de la vega joins us live now and janine, i understand you just heard from an upset family member of the man whop was shot. >> reporter: yeah, that's right. a woman walked up to me moments ago and claimed to be the sister of the man that police shot. they just left candles out here on the sidewalk where the stolen car that he was in crashed. she says that police shot her brother in the head and she's questioning why police shot and killed him. she tells me he's 26 years old, that he has four children and one on the way. we're not identifying him because we don't have this confirmed by police but they -- sheriff's deputies are staying very tight-lipped about the investigation. you can see the mess left from the crash and the shooting. things got very violent. you can see the damage on this white honda. sheriff's deputies say last night before 7:00, the man driving it started to ram police cars. police in unmarked cars, spotted it, realized it was stolen and tried to s

'm alyssa cook. we begin tonight with information just in from san jose where a man has been shot and killed by police. it happened where officers tried to stop a stolen car. we've got more with more on what happened. >> reporter: well this shooting happened just about three hours ago as you can see it is still an active investigation. we're about a block from where it all happened. but right where it took place, a neighbor rushed down to the place, took a picture and sent it to us. you're looking at a photo of two undercover police cars. investigators say that he threw his car many reverse and rammed those police cars behind him. putting him in drive to ram that parked car in front of him. at that point they jumped out of his car where the suspect tried to run that officer over. the officer fired one single shot, hitting the suspect. paramedics took him to the hospital where he was pronounced dead. this all started when they tried to pull the suspect's car over, but they were terrified as the chase went through their neighborhood. >> it was pretty scary when the cops were chasing the kid, a
